Student E-Mail Accounts
Beginning this semester, every enrolled student at The University
of Alabama has an e-mail account on bama.ua.edu. This gives University
administration and faculty another method of getting important information
to students.
Students' e-mail addresses are now an official part of their student
directory information and are subject to the same disclosure laws
as other student information. Addresses for all students who have
not requested otherwise will be published in the printed directory
as well as an on-line student directory.
Faculty and staff members with access to the SIS system can find
a student's e-mail address on screen 10. The "business e-mail"
field lists the bama.ua.edu address, while the "personal e-mail"
field may be a different address (if the student provided that information).
Faculty may use e-mail to communicate with the students in their
classes. However, please keep the following points in mind:
-
Accounts on bama.ua.edu are completely separate from any other
e-mail addresses students may have, including those on departmental
servers (such as C&BA) or Internet service providers (like
AOL).
-
Students will have access to their e-mail accounts as long
as they remain enrolled at the University, but their accounts
will be deleted after they leave. Please do not leave important
projects on student accounts; contact the HelpDesk (348-2435)
for assistance with moving them to another account.
-
Under no circumstance should students give out their passwords,
and you should not request them to. Instruct students that have
forgotten their passwords to bring their ACTion cards to the
HelpDesk (A-203 Gordon Palmer Hall).
